Description: It is really fun to sell cookies tostudents who get excited tosend short notes to theirfriends.-sophomore Callum ThurstonSouths got talentSouths annual talent show is a favorite formany students who get to see their peersshowcase their talents,The talent show has alwaysbeen an integral activity torstudents here at South, withparticipants from all gradescoming together to showcasetheir skills. Not only do thestudents who perform in theshow have to memorize theirroutines, they have to prepareto show an entire audience ofstudents, family members, and teachers what they cando. For first-time performerjunior Jonathon Birkey, nerveswere only a small factor insharing his talent on stage. Heperformed yo-yo tricks. He said yo-yo tricks canbe challenging depending onwhich ones you do, but myfriends and family cheeredme on. Birkey also sharedthat he enjoyed performing inthe show so much that heplans on doing it again but isnot sure which talent he willshowcase.Similarly, junior MeghanMcCarthy felt that getting upon stage was not too nerve-wracking. McCarthy was ableto escape most of her onstage jitters. She said she knew whatto expect from the last twoyears shed performed. Shechose to perform the songLove Song by Sara Bareillesthis year. She prepared bygoing through songs until shefound the right one and thenrehearsed that song until itwas perfect.McCarthy also performeda song with one of the hostsof the show, senior JeromeStenson. Stenson enjoyedsinging a duet and hostingthe show for the third time. Hisfavorite part of hosting Southstalent show was helpingpeople who dont always getto show their talents, andwatching people progressfrom the first day of tryouts tothe day of the show. With a lot of practice, each of the participants inSouths talent show gave thecrowd something great towatch. Performers put theirhearts into their routines, andwhen it came time to performon stage, the opportunity toshow off their skillsoutweighed any nervousness.-Emily Long67Jacob Cassidysenior
