rise to the occasionMany South students volunteeredat or attended the annual KiwanisIndiana Balloon Fest,During the second weekendin September, many Hoosiersgathered to watch hot airballoons float into the sky. Thehot air balloon festival is puton by the Kiwanis Club ofSouth Central Indiana everyyear, and hundreds of peoplegather to watch the balloonstake off. Bloomington HighSchool Souths Key Clubvolunteered to help with theevent. We collected ticketsand promoted seatbelt safetyby handing out drawings tokids to help with the event,said club member,sophomore Maya Mills. Wealso collected tickets and didanything we could to helpthroughout the night.One new part of theevent this year was a fooddrive hosted by Hoosier HillsFood Bank. In addition to this,there were many otheractivities to do at the festival,such as helicopter rides, livemusic, 5k run/walk, Segwayrides, bumper cars, and thefinal balloon release everynight. Nobody at the festivalever looked bored, said Mills.Senior Paige Cassidyattended the festival withfriends rather than Key Club.It was my first time going toan event like this, Cassidysaid, adding that the mostexciting part was watching ahot air balloon take off right infront of me.
