Description:	Bloomington South shotput and discus upperclassmen are not standard track athletes. In a sportthat requires finesse and strength, these men train and perform to the highest standard.Its not just about what happens on the track. Thefield events, namely shotput and discus, differ greatlyfrom what happens on the quarter-mile border.Throwing junior Tyler Truelock has helped toguide the underclassmen new to the high school trackarena. Throwing is where you use an implement,either a shot put or a discus, with the intent ofthrowing it as far as possible, Truelock said. Commontechniques for Truelock and other throwers are theglide or spin methods. These provide an effectiveway to get the most power for their throws.Junior Jacob Leimer joined the squad andquickly realized there was more to throwing than metthe eye. Leimer, a long-time baseball player, had highexpectations as a rookie. Leimer said originally hethought [he] was going to be one of the best because[he] didnt know any of the throwers at the time, norhow good the throwing team was. During themidseason, Leimer admitted that he had not yetgotten to where he wanted to be as a track athlete.[I am] still looking to finish the season as one of thebest, Leimer said.With such a high competition within the team,senior William Hopkins admitted that he had towork hard to get to be one of the top discus throwersin the state. The learning curve for throwing is just sohigh, Hopkins said. Its all based around techniqueand how well you can deliver under pressure.Hopkins was sad to end his throwing career but hadhigh hopes for the success of next years throwers.[The athletes] should keep their head up and havepatience, Hopkins said. Truelock and Leimer joinedHopkins in knowing the struggle between beingpatient and hungry for success. [The throwers]should never be satisfied with what theyre doingbecause there is always a way to work harder andimprove distance, Hopkins said.-JACKSON MAHURON
