Description: adaptThe South boys basketball team unified to show the school andcommunity that trust pride and confidence ensure success.The whistle is blown and the basketball is tossed up to begin the game. A sea ofpurple comes to life in waves from the stands. Although the spectators do notknow how the game will end, the tradition of Bloomington South panther pridedrives their applause and cheers for the duration of the game.The team was no stranger to this outpouring. The players witnessed dailyexpressions of basketball pride in the hallways, during practice and across thecommunity. Sophomore Phillip King even as an underclassmen, knew theimpact and influence the players had this year both on and off the court. Wealways want to be a good example and look good in the classroom and around thecommunity, King said. In doing so, their actions bred confidence. We show a lotof pride by how we carry ourselves, sophomore Chance Coyle said. Were goingto get everyones best shot because were Bloomington South.Support and guidance from head coach J.R. Holmes went a long way to showthe boys how to mentor each other. The upperclassmen realized the roles ofleaders and executed them the best they could. Junior Bradford Bombaexpressed this confidently. [We have] the best team chemistry of anybody. Smallgestures repeated throughout the season - high-fives after free throws and pats onthe back during half time - showed consistency and stability among the team.Coaches, players - were all one, Bomba said.King named trust as the center of the teams mutual support. If you havesupport from your teammates and coaches, then youll have pride because youllwant to play for them, said King, Youll know that theyll always have your back.The offense and defense seemed to have not only the backs of their teammates,but all sides were covered in bringing them to a 21-5 record heading intoregionals.
