PHOTOS BY MAGGIE BUIathlete and run against different competition, said Gilpin.Although college level track will be challenging, Gilpin isconfident that this experience will be beneficial andrewarding for his future.Track and Field teams are not only focused on longdistance and sprints, but events like jumping and throwingare also vital to the teams success. Truelock is one of thoseexceptionally good throwers that Bloomington High SchoolSouth is grateful to have as a part of their track and fieldprogram. He will be attending Huntington University, aNAIA division school, during the 2017 school year tocontinue his track and academic future. Im really excitedabout competing against a lot of high class athletes andseeing how I stand up, says Truelock. Im also excited tocontinue progressing as a thrower and becoming the best Ican be. Throwing is a strenuous activity that requires theathletes to fling a disc as far as they can. The thrower musthave exceptionally strong arm and core muscles; whichmeans Gilpin and others spent much of their high schoolyears in the weight room. Huntington University takespride in the hard work that their student athletes, likeGilpin, put forth daily.Although graduating and moving on from high schoolis always a somber occasion, the BHSS track and field boysare proud of their teammates accomplishments. Hood,Gilpin, and Truelock are eager to see what their futureshold by stepping up to competing on the collegiate level. They will remember their time at South and apply whatthey learned, both on and off the track, to their futureathletics and professions.- TORRAN BOMBABRAZIL 4/28 PROTESTERS IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
