However, for upperclassmen, the first weeks in Ma/ can be the most stressful of the /ear due to AP Exams. These exams, which are several hours long, are designed to test students knowledge on the content the/ have learned incertain classes and potentially earn them college credit. Juniors Madeleine Clemmer, Alan Ngu/en and B/oul Han, whotook the AP Chemistry exam share their thoughts:Question: What are your feelings about AP Chemistry as a class overall?Madeleine Clemmer: The class was my favorite out of all of my classes this year. It was a topic I was very interested in because it teachesyou how the world works at the most basic level.Alan Nguyen: I feel like AP Chem was a great class in terms of enriching topics from Honors chemistry and teaching new ones. I would saythe class was like a well-rounded challenge not only because of the newer material but also because the class wasnt necessarily engagingwith labs or demonstrations. There was a lot of sitting, listening and note taking.Byoul Han: I loved the class! It was probably my favorite class all year even though it was the hardest and most stressful.Q: How did the exam compare to the class itself?MC: The exam was more difficult than any of our tests (which we expected), and it was much longer, but Mr.Rapp integrated a lot of theold AP questions into our tests, so we were all used to critical thinking.AN: The exam emphasized ideas and problems about the newer material learned in AP Chem that wasnt taught in Honors or regularchemistry.BH: The exam was really hard just like the class.Q: Do you have any AP-Exam-day rituals or routines that you feel help you perform better on the exam?MC: I made sure to get lots of sleep, I ate a big breakfast, and then I ate another snack in between the multiple choice and free response.Snacks are my main thing (I dont know if youd call it a ritual) when test taking.AN: I usually take some time to have a moment which consists of having some type of breakdown, which varies based on my mood andthe test Im going to take the next day, looking at a llama pictures, eating some jellybeans and listening to Miley Cyruss The Climb likeonce.BH: Sweatpants.Q: After taking an exam, are you anxious to see your scores in July or do you forget about it?MC: Im not anxious to see my scores now, because I realized before the exam that I still want to take the first year of chemistry in college. That being said, Im incredibly grateful and happy to have gotten the chance to take a class to prepare me for college chemistry.AN: I usually forget about it since it is what it is, but then I get super anxious anyways right before I see the scores.BH: I forget about it because honestly, the AP scores dont matter too much. Worst case scenario is I dont get college credit, but none ofthe AP classes I took had anything to do with the major I want to pursueINTERVIEWS CONDUCTED BY ZOE BERESZTEIN1141 Academics f CONGRESS PASSES BILL ORDERING NASA TO SEND HUMANS TO MARS BY 20331 INTERSTATE 80 CLOSES AFTER |
