PHOTOS COURTESY OF SARAH YANGFLASHBACKFRIDAYWalking into the school lunch room on Retro Dancenight feels like going back in time: old music, colorfuloutfits, and funky dance moves make students feel as ifthey are in a different decade. Every year, StudentCouncil hosts this dance following the Boys Basketballhomecoming game. About 50 students attend thedance, and have a blast dancing with their friends insuch a fun and carefree environment.Members of Student Council work hard setting upfor this amazing night. They put up colorfuldecorations around the lunchroom. However, onedecoration outshines them all: the giant Retro signmade of twinkle lights in the back of the room. Notonly is this the most attention grabbing decoration, butit is also the hardest to put up. Freshman RachelWalker said that working on the lights was difficult, but we eventually got it...it looked really awesome whenit was done. Walker said the set up was just as fun asthe dance itself because Student Council membersSouth students gather in the cafeteria tospend their Friday night at the fun andlively retro dance.listened to music and had fun bonding with each other.Although everyone enjoys listening and dancingto the music, seeing all the clothing people wear isanother highlight of the dance. Students get to chooseto dress from whichever era they prefer, making for aroom full of vibrant and diverse outfits. FreshmanMaggie Doyle wore a shirt that said what if Staceysmom was Jessies girl and her number was 867-5309,which references three iconic songs from past decades,Staceys Mom, Jessies Girl and Jenny. Doyleenjoyed seeing other peoples creative outfits as well.Everyone was dressed up in really cool costumes, shesaid.Attendees who are not part of Student Councilhad a blast as well.
