CAROLING FOR A CAUSEThis winter, members of Sounds of South wentcaroling at the Canopy of Lights. The performance washeld on the square before the lighting ceremony.Members of the choir enjoyed performing just as muchas other South students enjoyed the performance bytheir peers. Third year Sounds of South member juniorJerome Stenson said he loved performing. Thecarolers sang classics such as Carol of the Bells, Nowis the Caroling Season, and O Little Town ofBethlehem in hopes of receiving donations for a localcharity. They were successful in raising $89. Secondyear Sounds of South member sophomore ThomasMcEvilly said that the atmosphere is really fun justwalking around and singing with your friends.PHOTO COURTESY OF SYDNEY WAYSEASONAL SENSATIONSSouths Womens Choir hosts an annual winter concert featuring Sounds of South. Thestudents perform man/ holiday hits and show off their voices.Every year, the South Womens Choir hosts a winterconcert to kick off the holiday season. The ladies performmany holiday hits, such as Jingle Bells, All I Want ForChristmas Is You, Mary Did You Know, and many moreholiday favorites. Freshman Haley Plessinger said theconcert was amazing, having especially loved seeing howeverything the womens choir had worked on cametogether during the performance.The concert gets many students in the holiday spirit.Additionally, friends and families of the choir members -as well as South students looking to get in the holidayspirit - attend and enjoy watching the girls work pay off.Womens choir spends three months every year gettingready for the winter concert by learning all the dancesand going through all the notes sophomore Roma Bewleysaid. The girls spent their time memorizing the dances andworking on their voices for their big performance.Sophomore Claire Landgraf said that her favorite part ofthe concert was getting to show people our voices. Thisreflects the feeling of most of the choir members, who jointhe class to improve their singing voices.However, the improvement of singing skills is not theonly incentive to join the South Womens Choir. Manygirls also join to meet new people outside of their regularsocial circles and make friends. These ladies form a specialbond while singing and dancing together on stage. WhilePlessinger joined because she had been in choir at hermiddle school and loves to sing and dance, she has alsofound that it is a great place to meet new people and makelifelong friends.Even though this is the time for the South WomensChoir to shine, they were also joined by another musicalgroup at South - Sounds of South, the same group that puton the musical Pippin earlier this year. Together, bothgroups put on a performance enjoyed by the wholeaudience.
