PHOTOS BY LUCILLE POWERSFor the BHSS 2014 Prom, All That Jazz, Junior Advisory Board tookstudents back to the Roaring Twenties for a night at Chicagos NavyPier — and for New York parties with the Old Sport himself.I had a huge role, so it was different.Different in more ways than one — inaddition to helping lead the JAB crew,Smith won Prom Queen, along with juniorand Prom King Mark Nussbaum. It wasan honor, Smith said. It showed howmuch work Ive done over the years.JAB member and junior Paul Adams, iad also helped with prom for much of hishigh school career. Having assisted withmusic and technical work in 201 3, Adamstook on much of this years electrical work, including wiring lights and creating amakeshift motor for both the carousel andferris wheel. I like putting my skills to use,. I likebuilcffhg things and making things work. The carousel construction, which didnot come with a motor, took hours of work, but according to Smith — who also assistedwith the assembly — It was worth it.Adams echoed Smiths sentiment. Inthe beginning of construction, Adams hadmisgivings. It was very doubtful thateverything was going to get done, hesaid. [But at prom,] there was not a singlething that didnt work ... [and] it was niceto see it all come together. While the tangible result of all thiswork was the elaborate decor, the realgoal was to create a prom party with assaid Lisa, who attended prom with heryounger sister, freshman DianneGabrielsen.Dianne recalled the decorations, dancing, and music as a few of thepleasantly memorable elements of AllThat Jazz. However, spending time withher sister might have been the greatesthighlight. We were ourselves, sheexplained.Dianne, her fellow students, and JABmembers all found something to love atprom: the company, the twenties decor, thepayoff that accompanied months of hardwork — and all that jazz. |
