There was anervous excitement in the air, and thegrounds around the stadium werebustling with activity as hundreds ofpeople milled about in their bestrunning gear. For some, however, theirclothing had more meaning: Amongthe runners, the team from BloomingtonSouth stood out from the crowd, adorned in orange bandanas, eachdisplayed differently - tied aroundnecks, worn as headbands, andattached to various articles of clothing. These bandanas representedCamstrong, a movement created toshow support for junior Cameronand in his battle with cancer. Here is an interview with Blandabout his experience:What was your experience like atHoosiers Outrun Cancer?CB: I hadnt ran since chemo started,so it was harder than I thought it wasgoing to be ... but it was also reallycool because I saw a bunch of peoplewith Camstrong shirts. What does student support meanto you? How is it different thansupport from your family?CB: Student support is awesome.People still wear the shirts, and its niceto have a reminder that people stillcare. At school there are kids that arealready supporting me, even if Ivenever talked to them. Some Im reallyclose to, some I barely know. Withfamily, were already connected, so Ikind of expect them to support me. Atschool, I dont really expect them to doanything. Can you talk about yourexperience with cancer?CB: I thought I was still going to be asactive as I was and I thought I wasgoing to be able to just push through it,but the cancer makes me physicallyincapable of pushing through it. In thatway, its hard, but I thought I wasgoing to be a lot sicker than I was.How has Camstrong affected you, aside from Hoosiers OutrunCancer?CB: Its just a feeling that I knowpeople are there to support me. Its notreally that theyre helping me withanything, its just helping me feel okay, and like Im not alone.- INTERVIEW BY MACKENZIE MOTSINGER
