the few, the prAt the beginning of the season, theBloomington South girls golf team hadjust three players, but returning seniorHallie Pedersen and sophomoresCherise Otter and Emma Fisher werecalm, prepared and excited for theseason. In fact, for the first threetournaments — because of the IndianaHigh School Athletic Association rule thatstates that at least four players areneeded for a team score to be posted —there was no way the girls could win as ateam. After the third tournament, though, the team doubled in size: freshman LydiaQuinn and sophomores Cydney andLindsey Bomba joined the small butfeisty team, just at the right time. For thefirst time in the teams history, theytraveled four hours to Mishawaka,Indiana, and spent the night there toparticipate in a tough Hall of FameClassic. Most of the girls agreed that thistournament was the highlight of theseason because they bondedimmediately; being together for about 36hours, they learned maybe even a littletoo much about each other. CydneyBomba said she was glad she joinedbecause she got to become closer toeveryone on the team. After thatweekend, there was no stopping the girls.During the season, the girls went onto go 8-1 in dual meets, third inConference Indiana and second place atSectionals, making it to Regionals for thesecond time in two years. We werepretty successful for havingunexperienced golfers, revealed Fisher.Unfortunately, the teams season endedwith their regionals occurrence, but Otter,as an individual, made it to State for thesecond consecutive season, and the teamcheered for her all the way as sheamazingly placed ninth in the state ofIndiana.Because of the small numbers on thegolf team, the girls were able to forge abond that will not be broken, even asPedersen moves on to college next year.We will miss her and the team wont bethe same without her, but we will still havefun next year, said Otter of Pedersen. This companionship was wonderful forthe South girls golf team, their friendshipand their overall success; because of theinexperience being fostered intogreatness, the only place for the team togo is up, and for their scores to go down.- HALLIE PEDERSENl^J £ 13 Sophomores Cydney and Lindsey Bomba, freshman Lydia Quinnand sophomore Cherise Otter wait for their turn to warm up at the Hall ofFame Classic at the Knollwood Country Club on August 24.
