Description: Date Hmhis in the AirSeniors Rachel Farrar and Arlen Nettleton enjoyed a relaxing date atthe second annual Monroe County Hot Air Balloon Fest.Just when the weather started to cool down across the region, MonroeCounty was heating things up. A mid-September weekend was filledwith fire, day and night, and many took advantage of this unseasonalheat to explore as families, individuals, or couples. Seniors RachelFarrar and Arlen Nettleton were among the pairs, both young andold, who sought the festival of hot air balloons as a change of pace. The Kiwanis Clubs second Annual Hot Air Balloon Fest, hostedat the Monroe County Fairgrounds on September 12-14, was an eventwhich supported Riley Childrens Hospital and the local Boys and GirlsClub among other causes. During the event, 20 hot air balloons ofvarious colors and sizes were launched. Farrar and Nettleton weresurprised by the variety. There were many different and uniqueballoons, Farrar said. For example, they had a balloon based onThere Was an Old Lady Who Lived In a Shoe, but my favorite was thepirate-themed balloon. Lovingly disagreeing, Nettleton was partial tothe purple, spider-like balloon. The festival featured a packed schedule of events in addition tothe balloons. Among them were a car show, a chili cook-off, a cornholetournament, a Health and Safety Fair, both tethered and untetheredhot air balloon rides, and the most popular event: the Night Glow.During the Night Glow, tethered balloons lit by propane heaters weresynchronized to music for a spectacular light show. Farrar andNettleton agreed that the Night Glow was the best part. It was reallyawesome to see all the balloons light up at different times to the beatof the music, Farrar said. Although we mostly only saw the NightGlow, we were glad we went.- REBEKAH DORSETTSouth students shared their favorite place inBloomington to go on a date with theirsignificant other.SENIOR BRENDA PEREZI love going to the pizzeriadowntown because its fun togo to the place we had ourfirst date.SENIOR JACOB MILHOUSEMy favorite place to go on adate is probably the movies.JUNIOR CLAUDIA BEHNEI really like going toDeAngelos, the food isalways delicious.STUDENT LIFE 117<
