Description: 2013 Advanced Placement testing brought one majorchange to Bloomington South: the use of iPads for theoral portion of foreign language examsminute presentation on the spot.[It was] probably the mostdifficult test Ive ever taken, saidjunior Courtney Mitzel, shortlyafter taking the exam. Studentsalso had technical difficulties withthe test. The audio was way toofast and some of it hadbackground music and noise,said Mitzel.Mitzel was not alone. Nearlyall of the students who took the testwere surprised by its difficulty.Junior James Bower was one ofthem. It was very difficult, hesaid. It felt like you needed to befluent in Spanish.While Souths firstexperience with iPad AP testingmay not have been the smoothesttransition into the digital age, thetest did perhaps pave the way fora whole new world of course andtesting options for South.-ISABEL CULLATHERNerves: everyones got them. Fromconcerts to big games to speeches,anxiety was common in the typicalhigh school environment. Some ofthe most intense cases ofclassroom butterflies occurredduring the spring AdvancedPlacement (AP) tests.Though most commonlycompleted with a good, old-fashioned pencil, the Spanish APtest, for the first time, took a steptowards the future by employingiPads. Because it was the first yearfor South to adopt iPads as well asSouths first year to offer an APSpanish exam, it was no surprisethere were a few butterflies in thestomachs of those who elected totake the exam.The test included a speakingportion which required students tospeak into the iPads and respondto a simulated conversation inSpanish as well as create a twoITS AIThe foods classes celebrated the end of the year and the final daysof the course with a picnic on May 9.
