Description: OUTAs part of their mission to becomecloser to nature and learn more aboutthe natural world around them, SAGEclub took a field trip to variouslandmarks around Bloomington. Thefirst of these sights was a spring calledLost River. This was my favorite one. Thewater was a pretty teal blue color, said junior Imogen Todd. At thespring, students took water samplesand walked around the edge of thespring which lay 80 feet below theground.SAGE clubs next outdoordestination was another spring calledWesley Chapel Gulf in Orangeville,Indiana, the second largest spring inthe state. The SAGE members learnedthat this spring, a tributary of the LostRiver, was created by an undergroundriver which for a short time resurfaced,as junior Carissa Knox explained. The third and final landmark wasa Indianas most famous fossil bed, purchased by the Sycamore LandTrust. Students unearthed formationsthat were many millions of years old.Animals had walked around this areamillions of years ago and eventuallyleft fossils, said Todd.Reflecting on the experience, junior Olivia Pfingston said herfavorite part was being able to seethings that nobody really knowsabout. This brief tour gave the SAGEclub members unique opportunities tosee the highlights of theirenvironments, and that was somethingthey would never forget.-LAUREN LESLIEA YEAR WITrlblack culture clubm<-1 -\:<\~^fjflS?>- ■Members of Black Culture Club describeexperiences with the club this year.their favoriteIf My favorite part was whenwe went to the read-ins,which were poemscelebrating Black HistoryMonth.
