dancinM ^T mVmeFor the first time in since 2008, the South Dance Team made the journey to theNational Dance Associations Competition in Universal Studios in sunny Florida.After taking state by storm in 201 2,the Bloomington South girls danceteam was ready to step up theirgame and try their moves atnationals for the first time in fiveyears.In March, the South danceteam made the journey to theNational Dance AssociationsNationals Competition at UniversalStudios in Orlando, Florida. Thefour-day trips expense required theteam to fundraise throughout theirseason, holding numerous bakesales, car washes and even hostingan invitational. We had tofundraise like crazy and work hardon our routines, said freshmanPatricia Moon.After months of dedication,the dance team left for Florida onMarch 7. The girls had an earlystart on March 9, the first day ofNationals, beginning their day at 5a.m. After a few hours ofpreparation, they headed off to theHard Rock Cafe where they wouldbe performing alongside teamsfrom all over the country.Sophomore dancer CharlotteButler was excited to go tosomething so special with some ofmy very best friends, she said.Though the team did notqualify for the final round of thecompetition, they continued toimprove their performance.However, after returning fromnationals, their season was notover. The following Saturday wasthe Indiana High School DanceTeam Associations Statecompetition. The team workedtirelessly in the days leading up totheir final competition of theseason. Our goal was to do ourbest and we did, said sophomoreMegan Shishman.We were determined tomake our last performance ourbest, said Moon. The dance teamdid just that, finishing their seasonwith the highest scores theyreceived all year in both the jazzand pom categories.-JADRIENNEFIGLEY |
