For example, at the end ofevery meet, they would either go toa team members house for dinneror go out to eat. After dinner, thegroup talked about that nightsmeet while enjoying a cool, refreshing glass of chocolate milk. When a school record wasbroken, the team would gather atthe meet, and again at thefollowing dinner, and chant, Newschool record! New schoolrecord! said junior NicholasWonder.During practices and teamdinners, the Panthers discussedtime-honored traditions that hadbeen around since the swimmingand diving team started. Beforebig meets like sectionals and state,we bleach ourhair or shave our heads, explained freshman Mason Hall.A more recent tradition was,one of the swimmers, or divers, sets up a scavenger hunt. The restof us have to go around doingwhatever is on the scavenger hunt, and we have to show proof that wedid each thing, said juniorMatthew Van De Venter.Senior Christopher Minglinagreed. We are a pretty closeteam, we are just one big group,he said. The team got together and atedinner after most victories, with allmembers included. There were nocliques and no one was excluded.Everyone has bonded witheach other, Minglin said. The mostimportant of traditions, however, was the teams strong bond whichshone through in the pool and onthe scoreboard, and continued toconsistently drive the team toexcellence.- BAILEY BOLER |
