Proceedscollected from faculty, staff, first period classes and clubs totaled $6,400. 2.Senior Carlos Vidaurri-Rodriguez and sophomores Margaret Hopkins andMadeline Kane ponder their gift choices. Many studentsplayed improvised jazz solos over the course of the performance. 5.Sophomore Nathan Sidell plays the vibraphone, one of the many percussioninstruments in his repertoire. Two days later, Sidell won the OutstandingMusician Award at the Bloomington jazz Festival. 6. Jazz band director Mr.Robert Dubinski conducts the intermediate group during their concert. Senior executive Kendall Theile scoops ice cream during the 8-10 p.m. shift for the Dance Marathonfundraiser at Coldstone Creamery on December 12. Twenty-five percent of the profits made during the eventwent to the organization, totaling $250 at the end of the night. 8. Senior executive Katherine Head and juniorexecutive Kathleen Moore, who will be president of the club from 201 3-2014, mix toppings into ice cream. Theexecutives raised over $300 in tips alone over the span of the night. PHOTO BY SARA NEMESSophomore percussionist Nathan Sidell is honoredat the Bloomington Jazz Festival sponsored byIndiana University from December 8-9.Sophomore Nathan Sidells palms were sweating as he started his soloof Kenny Dorhams Blue Bossa at the Bloomington Jazz Festival. Hewas jittery, unable to find his groove until halfway through. However,once he found it, he was rewarded with an Outstanding MusicianAward, a tremendous honor that took him by surprise. It felt like awarm blow of appreciation, he said with a sly grin, twirling hisdrumsticks as he sat down to play another solo. Other OutstandingMusician Award winners included freshmen Elias McDermott-Sipe andMatthew Zelenin and juniors Emily Laszlo and Thomas Knight.-GILLIAN APPLEGATE
