Description: Soccer and hockey teams competeSouths first soccer team had a shortbut eventful season. Under the instruction of Coach Richard Briggs, the Panthers played only two games, both beingstate-wide single-elimination tournaments.In their first match the Panthers polished off Rushville, 4-2. The second contest was lost 1-0 in a close game withthird-ranked New Albany.Soccer is not a varsity sport at South;therefore, Briggs was unable to secure afield or funds from South.The Panther hockey team had animpressive season in its second year.Under the direction of Coaches TomFroehle and Sam Preus, the sguad finished 6-19-1 for the season. Highlightsof the season included winning a sportsmanship award in Chicago and earningsecond place in a holiday tournament atChampaign, III.Carla Mintz was added to the team andbecame the teams first and only girlmember.This year the hockey team was sponsored by the Bloomington Parks andRecreation Department, as well as individual contributors.TOP: HOCKEY TEAM.
