Description:	King and I,The Heiressput on stageThe King and I and The Heiress were the first plays presented byTheatre South for the 1976-77 season.Mary G. Forester was stage director; and Danny Wright was in chargeof the musical direction for The Kingand I, a musical by Rodgers andHammerstein.Lynne Mielke played the Britishschool teacher, Anna Leonowens,whose new job was to teach Englishto the royal wives and children of theKing of Siam, portrayed by EricMielke.Other solo vocalists were TeresaWikle, as the kings head wife, LadyThiang; Ruth Dickerson, as the defiantslave girl who loved the slave LunTha, played by Rolf Loescher; and ina lead role as the kings adviser, KeithCooper, as the Kralahome.A cast of nine BHS South studentsbrought Theatre Souths second production, The Heiress, to life.Amin Istrabadi played the rich Dr.Sloper, who felt that the sole heir tohis money, his daughter, would neverbe a success. The shy CatherineSloper, portrayed by Barb Blewett,fell in love with a man who her fatherbelieved loved her only for the moneythat was her inheritance.A: Amin Istrabadi and Mrs. Mary Foresterpractice the theatre motto, Break aJeg. Whenthe play was postponed from January to February because of bad weather, Karen Trubitthad to take over for Betsye, who spent second semester in Mexico. C: Lynne Mielkeand Jill Abram do a dance in The King andI. D: Eric Mielke portrays the leading roleof the king in The King and I. E: SamSipes and Karen Trubitt portray characters inThe King and I.
