PHOTOS BY RAN CAOThe Bloomington South andBloomington North softball teamsset aside their rivalry and teamedup to raise $260 to benefit RileyChildrens Hospital. Money wasraised before, during and after therivalry game.Setting aside any pre-gametensions, the teams were able tosend out a good word to thecommunity about their fundraiser.The hard work to promote thegame payed off when thebleachers filled with fans andsupporters of Riley and the dSlteams. The atmosphere wasnthostile between the two teams.We both realized we were therefor a good cause, and we werepumped to work together, saidJohnson. We played clean, eventhough it was really competitive,In between each inning, astatement was read by anannouncer that described howRiley had affected the players. Alot of the players had been helpedby Riley, and it was reallyinspirational to know that they hadhelped and cared, said juniorKatelyn Johnson. Many of theplayers had personal connectionsto Riley, such as freshman SierraMcCammon, who received acochlear implant fromhospital. Riley means so much tome. I see many kids [at Rile-I really want them to get helpMcCammon said.Although South won, itdid not matter who won or kbecause the end result of tfundraiser was more imporiAlthough there was achance that the teams wouldagain in sectionals, giving Southanother opportunity to beat North,the chance to help Riley patientswas the greatest victory of all.- MARCO REGOLI
