PHOTOS BY CHANDLER WAGGONERFor the month of October, a giantcardboard cut-out of BloomingtonSouth principal Mr. Mark Fletcherstood at the door of the mainoffice. The giant Mr. Fletcher wasnot wearing a suit and tie butrather a red plaid kilt with a wordbubble that said: Come ye all toBrigadoon. It promoted the falltheatrical performance about amysterious Scottish village thatappeared only once every 100years.Despite a last-minute leadrole switch between juniorJonathan Enari and sophomoreJacob Bland in one of the fourperformances, the show went on.Although Enari was disappointedat the switch, Bland was glad toget the chance to take the leadrole in another show. The success of theperformance was due in part tothe strong bonds between castmembers, even though Sounds ofSouth was a large group.Sophomore Mary Baker saidthat the troupe was very close.Sometimes I would rather be atSOS than at home, she said.Sophomore Caleb Baechtoldagreed. Id say we are extremelyclose. Even the members I donthang out with outside of schoolare always really friendly, Theyreall good to talk to.Junior Jordan Goodmon, saidshe felt an exclamation ofhappiness every time she saw afellow Sounds of South friend. For junior Rachel Hoffman, not only was she very close withthe cast, but she called it a builtin family, since her sisterfreshman Sarah Hoffman was alsoa member.Although not everyone in thecast had the advantage of havinga sibling in Sounds of South likeHoffman did, the tight-knit groupstill called themselves a family. Asa group and family, they felt verycomfortable doing everythingaround each other, like talking infunny accents, dancing and evencrying. The close bonds betweenmany of the Sounds of Southmembers allowed the group toaccomplish a great deal andhelped members get through themost difficult moments,Close bonds were not the onlything that heightened Brigadoonssucess. The giant Mr. Fletcherseemed as though it helped aswell.- KAITLYNNE SILVERSactuates |
