Panic Ensued and the pranksters were not alloweo to walkat graduation.2004 Smelly Situation:Horse manure was spread around in the Franks Southern parking lot behind the school2006 Blow-up Babe:A blow-up doll was tied to the top of the flag pole in front ofthe school building. the doll deflated before any students arrived at school2007 Bouncy Ball Bind:Thousands of Super Ball bouncy balls were rolled down thetop set of atrium stairs.LEGEND Cow Crisis:A COW WAS BROUGHT UP TO THE LIBRARY BALCONY IN THE 70S. WHENTHE ADMINISTRATION TRIED TO GET THE COW DOWN, THEY REALIZEDCOWS DO NOT LIKE GOING DOWN STAIRS.The Winged Victory StatueShe rests on the third floor in the atrium of South. Her toga drapes aroundher body, covering only the necessaryparts, and her wings stretch outward,representing the fleeting nature of victory. She is a statue: a statue with anawe-inspiring history. It is the kind ofhistory that could probably be seen inher eyes—if only she had a head.Her name is Nike, pronouncednee-keh, and she is a replica of theWinged Victory statue that was excavated in Samothrace, Greece in 1863.Nike is the goddess of victory, and theoriginal statue is now displayed in thegrand staircase at the Louvre Museumin Paris. -BAILEY ANSTEADOverall GradeThe first edition of the Gothic, whichcontained 125 pages, was publishedby the senior class.Bloomington High School wasopened on Walnut and SecondStreet.A marble replica of the WingedVictory statue was donated to theschool. The statue remained thereuntil a fire destroyed the buildingand perhaps the statue, too.Bloomington High School on Walnut and Second Street became Central Junior High. Bloomington HighSchool was moved to its currentlocation on 1965 S. Walnut Street.The original Bloomington HighSchool, which had become CentralJunior High, burned down.Bloomington North was built to helpaccommodate the growingpopulation of Bloomington.Girls sports began at South.From 1968-1973, South football wentundefeated for six years and 60games.South won the last football gameagainst Bloomington North to beplayed at the IU Stadium.The band and choir wing, pool, andauxiliary gym were opened.South was remodeled, most notably,adding the atrium.202 I 100th ANNIVERSARY I history
