An alreadyexciting tradition was made more soby falling on the same weekend as theLittle 500 race, the greatest collegeweekend ever. While some studentsopted to go to the bicycle race and corresponding events, many still filled theatrium at South for the dance. For the years prom theme, Southtook advice from ancient Italy anddid as the Romans did. The atriumwas decorated to emulate ancientRome by featuring an ornate Romangarden on the first floor. On the upper floors, including the middle dancefloor level and the top of the atrium, were painted reproductions intendedto incorporate a museum atmosphere.I think [When in Rome] was an elegant and appropriate prom theme. Ithink it was well liked by the majorityof the students, said junior Mackenzie Lloyd. Lloyd helped to pickthe theme as well as decorate for prombecause of her participation on JuniorAdvisory Board. When the dance itself ended, students had the option of heading toClassic Lanes Bowling Alley for Vegas-themed bowling. Sophomore ArmanReihani-Masouleh planned to goto prom again in the future, saying itwas a fun experience. Overall, promprovided an opportunity for studentsto take part in a classic high schooltradition while experiencing a taste ofRome. -STORY BY ELIZA WILLIAMSprom | STUDENT LIFE | 121
