Description: studentstakechargePlanning events and serving as the voice of the student body was an importantjob, and it was up to Student Council and the Advisory Boards to do it.As a high school student you may havehad to deal with change and unexpected events. Pop quizzes in English, breaking up with your boyfriend orgirlfriend, or on a more positive note, receiving an A on a test you thoughtyou failed. Despite all of these uncertainties there were traditions you couldhave always relied on. BloomingtonSouths student government providedmost of these traditions. Because oftheir committees, we looked forward totimeless events such as Spirit Week, senior t-shirts, prom, and matchmaker.Student Councils spirit weeks werea South staple that allowed students todress up all week and show just howmuch spirit they had. We always havePurple Day on Fridays. And we try tohave Pajama Day Mondays, seniorReed McClure said about the traditional spirit week days. [Spirit Week]gets people excited for the upcomingevent, said McClure. The senior class t-shirts also provided a great tradition that holdsmemories for years to come for thegraduating class. We had about twoor three meetings to decide the design. The t-shirts have to be simple, not toobusy. [The shirts] are a good memoryto have, Senior Advisory Board member Anissa McKibben said. The Sophomore Advisory Boardalso provided the school with greatmemories when they brought back thematchmaking service. They added atwist to it to keep it fresh. The LoveDoctor was more comical than pastyears attempts. Sophomore JosephForney said the more comical themewas added to make people feel morecomfortable and relaxed about thewhole process. The most popular national highschool tradition was arguably prom.Junior Advisory Board had a huge taskevery year to keep prom exciting andfun. The board was not allowed to repeat themes, and spent months deciding the theme for the year. Picking thetheme was a difficult process, juniorY-Lan Khuong said. Every JuniorAdvisory Board feels pressure. Youwant the juniors and seniors to feelgood [about prom].High school traditions added fun toa sometimes scary and stressful timein a teenagers fife. Souths traditionswere kept fresh and alive by the student governments in attempt to keepschool more exciting, McClure said.-BETHANY LAVENDER!
