Description: Hats Off•Class of *B6tBy: Kyrie ShepleyThe time finally came for the class of 2006 to walk acrossthe stage of Assembly Hall last June. The graduates sat in theiralphabetical rows anxiously but with a slight sense of sadness.Seniors were at the very last stage of their high school career andabout to embark on a journey into the real world carrying withthem the knowledge and experiences they attained over the pastfour years.The senior class was able to choose five representativesto recite separate speeches at the graduation ceremony thatthey felt best summed up their years as Bloomington Southstudents. My best friend Roxanne [Rajaii] and I decided towrite our speeches together because we wanted to showeveryone a side of us that nobody has seen, said seniorCaitlin Sengelaub. Sengelaub and Rajaii were just two ofthe representatives picked to present their speeches during theceremony. Others who spoke were Maggie Stork, Ben Frohman,and Anton Lamon.On the day of graduation, students were waiting for theceremony to begin with grinning faces while families, friends,and fans of the graduates filed into the crowded Assembly Hall.Just as in past ceremonies, Principal Mark Fletcher addressed thegraduates which was followed by the students speeches anda Sounds of South ensemble. Finally, the long list of graduateswas called to receive their diplomas as sporadic cheers from theaudience yelled of their excitement for the graduates.The year ended with a bang for South graduates assome threw their hats in the air as a sign of relief. Its crazy thatIm finally done, said graduate Alex Antilla. The class of 2006graduates had many accomplishments that made their last day ashigh school students a proud one.(Left) After receiving hisdiploma, senior Matt Cherryreads over it and ponders thathe has just graduated highschool. The fact can be almostunreal for some seniors.(Above) The class of 2006celebrates its graduation bythrowing hats up in the air.Some students decoratedtheir mortar boards to showtheir school spirit.HonorableHonorsThe class of 2006 was granteda record 1.9 million dollars inscholarship money.This year, 70% of seniors aregoing to 4-year post-secondaryschools.20% will attend 2-year colleges.Other high schools the size ofSouth give out an average of 86honors diplomas...South gaveout 168.2006 South graduatesplaced in Top 10 in thestate with their SATscores.SOURCE: Mr. Mark FletcherthwifrStudent Life
