Mr. South was a competition for a group of Southsmost unique gentlemen to compete for who had the most charismaand ability. The contestants were judged on their performanceportraying their uniqueness, and there was also a question andanswer portion of the competition for the final contestants.Mr. South was not all about the boys who competed.The fans took the excitement to the next level. The dancingwas my favorite part, said freshman Kava Crane. The fans yelledfor their friends and favorites which helped intensify the boysperformance. My favorite performance from all the contestantswould have probably been when Chris McGuire was wheeled outin a suitcase, like he was a yoga man or something! said one of thecompetitions judges, English teacher, Mrs. Elena Veach.Senior Anton Lamon was crowned the 2006 Mr. South andshowered with a bouquet of flowers. Mr. South is fun because its anopportunity to show off your talent and who you are. Its also for agreat cause, said Lamon. Lamon soared through the interview portion,but his true talent laid in his dance performance, where he showedthe school how unique and advanced his dance skills were. When itworks, it works, when it doesnt, it doesnt, and it just worked out forme, Lamon said about his outcome.Lamon won more than a crown and flowers, the title was mybiggest prize. Mr. South was an opportunity for South guys to expressthemselves in front of the entire school and raise money for RileyHospital at the same time; what could be more rewarding than that?(Left) Junior James Kerrauditions for Mr. South.Once accepted as a Mr.South participant, thecontestants practicedthroughout February toperfect the pageant.(Above) Senior Chris McGuireshows off his flexibility duringthe talent portion of thecompetition.
