Bloomington High School South, The Gothic, 2007, Page 61

Description: Bloomington High School South has a tradition of excellent athletic programs, and this year was no exception. In thefall both the boys and girls cross country teams proved their excellence, with the boys team advancing to State, the girls teammaking it to Semi-State and sending Corinne Innes to represent them at the State competition. The girls soccer team showedtheir greatness this year by advancing to Semi-State after an admirable season. Senior Anna Zull, the manager for girls soccer, determined what made the season so exciting. [It was] the heart of the team. They never quit and they always gave it their bestand stuck together no matter what. Zull cheered on the girls as they battled throughout the season. One memorable momentfor Zull was when, the team came back and scored three goals in the second half against a rival team to win the game, 3-2.The boys tennis team continued a long run of first-rate seasons by making it to the Regional finals before losing, whilewe cheered on our South football team to the Sectional finals before their loss.In the winter, senior Reece Freeman won the State title in wrestling while fellow senior Levi Pepper made an appearance at State also. This tradition of distinction isnt new to South; we hold more state titles in wrestling than any other schoolin the state. The team as a whole excelled as well, and won Regional as a team. The boys basketball team dominated throughout the season and through the Sectional and Regional Tournament.Senior Darin Petesch was a die-hard fan throughout the entire basketball season. Watching our team play solid fundamentalbasketball and still be able to win convincingly is what made it exciting, Petesch said. My favorite moment during the seasonwas when Jordan Forney took over in the Regional Final against New Albany to lead us to a 53-46 victory and earn us a matchup against Eric Gordon in semi-state, Petesch reminisced. Unfortunately, the action-packed season ended at Semi-State.In addition, both the girls and boys swimming had remarkable seasons, winning Sectionals and participating as a teamin the State competition. In the spring, the stream of excellence in athletics continued. The girls tennis team fought their way to an undefeatedseason, won sectionals and regionals, but fell to Jasper at Semi-State. Individual events on the boys track team advanced tostate, along with the whole girls team. The boys golf team continued its season into the summer by advancing to state and placing third as a team, while junior Kyle Perry also placed third individually.Souths tradition of athletic excellence continues to prosper every year, and 2007 was no exception. Souths athletesproved themselves in numerous sports by demonstrating the talent and skill that is possessed by those attending this greatschool.Through our dedication, it is clear that we do have pride in ourselves, and the Panthers.Sports *$£>> SportsW
