Description: Iw a e»9 Kid No*/By Samantha GeyerWhat was your favorite part of fifth grade? For many, it was their experience at Bradford Woods. Bradford Woods is a three-day camp where fifth graders go to interactively learn about nature. High school students wish they could go back to relive theirmemories, and being a LOTS senior gives them that opportunity.Leadership Opportunities Through Service, or LOTS, is a program in which high school seniors return to Bradford Woods ascounselors. LOTS gives the seniors a chance to interact with kids and be good role models. My favorite part was getting to know thekids in my trail group and cabin, senior Chelsea Gorr said. LOTS seniors participate in all the activities that the kids do,The Dutchauction was the best part, and of course, my team won, Senior Chloie Favinger said. Daily activities included cabin time, learningactivities, singing songs, playing games, and eating.During meal times, the campers were encouraged to end the meal with no yuck (leftovers) at their table. If the campers hadyuck they were instructed to scrape it into the Yuck Bucket, then all the tables together were weighed, and the weight wasrecorded. Kids loved participating and competing to get the lowest yuck. The kids all loved the competition aspect. They even didextreme things like licking their plates to achieve zero yuck, senior Ryan Salisbury said. Even the seniors got caught up in the YuckBucket fun. Favinger said, The tables I sat at never had yuck!Weather conditions could make or break a trip, but whatever the weather was, everybody had to make the best of it. Itrained the whole time I was there, but the kids were really great about it, they never complained, senior Charu Subramanian said. Thekids participated in daily activities, such as a daily weather report as well as raising and lowering the flag. Every morning adesignated cabin would wake up early to collect various data about that days weather. The seniors, and kids, all learned a lot fromthe weather. I learned about different cloud shapes, barometric pressure, and so much more. I was more in awe than the kids were,Favinger said. Being at Bradford Woods was a great opportunity for everybody. It didnt matter if you were 10 or 18, you still had fun.Being a LOTS senior was an excellent way to be a kid again.(Right) Senior NickZwissler shows offhis girl scout badgesduring a dress~upfiasco.
