Boys and GirlsHACK AND rlhLDStory by Nicole AddazioFrom the outside, this seasons girls track team may not look as experienced andaccomplished as previous teams. Looking closer, its obvious that the girls have beenpreparing and conditioning hard for their meets. Were really young this season, sophomore Samantha Croy said, so we had to workextra hard in conditioning to make up for our lack of experience. The team only had ahandful of seniors come out, although to the underclassmen there was still a lot ofleadership. Our seniors are really doing a great job of leading us by example and gettingus excited at practice and at meets. They are a really good group of upperclassmen, juniorShamara Clark said. We had twenty-one freshmen, said senior Kaitie DeLaCruz, butthey got more and more confident as the season went on.We are having a lot of fun this season. Most of us hadnt run together in our eventsbefore [this season], so we had to get used to each others styles, but towards the end wereally came together and performed well, sophomore Sara Branam said. The girls had ameet at IUs Pavilion, as well as several away and home competitions. The boys track team also had to bounce back from the setback of having few seniors.Only three seniors were on the team this season, but the boys were able to rebound to finisha good season. Like the girls, the boys team was full of young runners, but the group wasclose and had a lot of versatile runners, who were able to compete in multiple events. We had a young team with a lot of raw talent that will help us next season, junior RyanChapman said. We had a lot of hard workers, said junior James Haley. Everyone alwaysgave 100%.f=StatisticsBOYS: >wColumbus East93-39Indiana Relays9THLColumbus North43-89WBrown County115-17Conference Indiana5thBen Davis Southport2ndMartinsville Inv.4rHSectionalsONDGirls:LColumbus East58-74Indiana Relays6thLColumbus N.65-67Conference Indiana:6thWCenter Grove81-42Martinsville Inv.4thSectionals2KO^L— Afreparing to hand-ott the baton to the anchor leg ot his relay, junior Matt Johnson sprints the last corner ot the track.
