JV and Freshman BoysBasketballStory by Kourtney ParrottThe boys JV basketball team started out strong this year and didnt let up. They finished theirseason with a record of 16-4, and the freshman team followed close in their footsteps. Many playerswere able to play in both Freshman and JV games depending upon their skill levels. Freshmen outnumbered the sophomores and juniors on the JV team but no feelings of inferiority seemed to bepresent. The overall team chemistry was good; except for the occasional arguments we all reallyseemed to get along well, freshman Alex Green said. One specific game seemed to have had a rather large impact on the JV team. When asked about hismost memorable moment during the season, freshman Rett Deinlein spoke of the Lawrence Northgame. We beat Lawrence North and completely ruined their undefeated record, Deinlein said.Coach Byers added that Lawrence Norths final record at the end of their season was 19-1, with theironly defeat caused by our JV teams superior basketball skills and precise maneuvers. SophomoreJordan Webb added, It was pretty awesome to know that we were the only team that had been ableto bring them down. But memories of victories were not all that surfaced when the players lookedback on the season.During the Lawrence Central game, Mike Webber got dunked on. Thats probably one of thefunniest things that happened all season, Deinlein said. Various fans also added to the excitementduring games. We all enjoyed having Peanut and Hudoff around during the games, Webb said.Though neither of the teams had any specific rituals this year, that didnt seem to take away from theirteam unity. All in all, the JV and Freshmen basketball teams shared a good chemistry that allowedthem to stay composed and work together during practice and in games. This was apparent to all intheir final record at the end of the season.Statistii:sJ/VwJeffersonville62-44wSeymour57-47wColumbus East44-37wPerry Meridian34-31LPike41-53wBedford N.
