Ive just had so manygreat kids over the years and I love when they call orcome visit and let me know how theyre doing. Also,Ive worked with a lot of great colleagues over theyears.KL: What will you miss most about teaching here atNorth?MM: Most definitely, the people: students and teachers. Since Ive worked here for 31 years, Ive had theopportunity to work with just about everyone in somepoint in time. I wont miss the meetings and having toget up at six in the morning.KL: What inspiration did you have to become ateacher?MM: When I was in grade school, there was a youngman who was mentally handicapped. He had a hardtime keeping up in school, this was back before specialeducation. During recess he always would go out onthe playground and make these machines out of sticksand rocks that actually worked. It always amazed methat he couldnt read or write but could understandthese contraptions. It made me realize that not everyone learns and is as smart in the same way. I woulddefinitely consider this to be one of my biggest inspirations.KL:Where did you grow up?MM: I grew up in Orleans, Indiana which is in thenorthern part of Orange County. My parents actually stilllive there and thats where my husband and I plan ongoing after we are completly done up here.KL: What has changed the most during your years atNorth?MM: Students have changed somewhat over the yearsand teachers need to adjust to this. The teachers thatare able to make this adjustment are still doing a finejob in my opinion.Mrs. Jill Morgan, special education instructor, goes over assignments withher students. In an effort to prepare her student s for real world experiences, Mrs. Morgan spends countless hours making sure her studentshave all the necessary skills to succeed.
