VarsityFootbaiStory by Cassie ScalesThe Panther Varsity football team ended their season on a great note, winning the first twogames in sectionals. Junior Trevor McConnell, who played defensive back, running back, andquarterback commented, The record wasnt that good, but coming from 1-5 we showed a lot ofcharacter by not giving up. And the Panthers did not give up; they finished their last six games S-1with the loss at Center Grove during sectionals. In the beginning, our mindset wasnt good, we justshowed up to the games and played, McConnell added, When there was more pressure on us towin, we started getting pumped up before every game.A few players missed part of the season due to injuries. Quarterback, sophomore BenChappell, suffered a broken collarbone early in the season, but other players did a great job steppingup for the team. Toward the end of the season the team really came together, worked harder andbecame all around better athletes, defensive and running back senior Parker Stogdill said. McConnellnoted, Parker was a key player because when he was hurt we were 1-5 and when he came back westarted winning. He is by far the best running back on the team.Team members felt that one of their favorite games was against Columbus North. Afterbeing knocked out of sectionals the previous year and suffering three losses in a row to the Bulldogs, the Panthers came back to send Columbus North home from the sectionals.bophomore Jordan Canada pulls in a pass to score a touchdown in mgame against Columbus North, f he catch secured a win tor th(Tanthers by one point.
