She worked hard allseason to meet her goal ofmaking it to State. She didmake it, placing 27th out of 48competitors on the bars.I felt privileged to go andrepresent South at State. Iam glad my hard work got mesomewhere, senior GretchenSmith said.Senior Gretchen Smith andsophomore Kathleen Marvinstood out as the leaders onthe season. Both had manyyears of past experience.They showed a lot ofleadership and experience.Gretchen helped us and toldus what to do and Kathleenmade it to State last year, soshe knew what thecompetition was like,sophomore Allie Davis said.The season wasnt all workand no play. The teammatesfound time to goof aroundbetween practices and meets.We had a lot of quotes andthings that people always said,like Is that a fat joke? Wewere always messing aroundand making fun of each other,junior Katie Gales said.The team had commontraditions such as psychesisters and an originaltradition that involved abalance stone.We had a stone called thebalance stone and each timewe saw another teammate, wewould pass it on to them,mainly so we got theimpression we would stay upon the beam.
