This was just one of the manyactivities that the Student Councilorganized.Student Council was an activity thatallowed students to get involved with theschool as well as voice their opinions.Its really good to have a part to whatgoes on in school and that my voice doesget heard, sophomore Kathleen Marvinsaid.During the Riley Hospital fundraiser,Student Council members were able tocollect $500 from people at school. Theythen matched the amount raised withanother $500 raised from the Homecomingdance to reach a total of $1000.They also established the talking lockerthat allowed students to ask the StudentCouncil for help. The idea came from thesponsor, Ms. Ann Burke, science. Herintent was to make it easier for thestudents to ask questions and get a holdof Student Council members. Somestudents had written in about microwavesin the cafeteria and the Student Councilresponded by buying them.In addition, the Student Council had apurple carpet day that welcomed all newstudents to the school. They also put onthe holiday child gift exchange where theysponsored over 164 children. Aftergathering the presents, they thendelivered them to the school and fromthere, the social workers gave thechildren the presents.The best thing is the holiday child,because I like helping the less fortunate,junior Elisabeth Bowling said.All these programs gave a sense thatstudents at school really do care.
