The structurewas called the Seminary Building and was known for itsbeautiful Gothic architecture (thus the name of the yearbook).j|| The trustees of the University offered the building to theBloomington school board in 1897 for $11,500. The citypurchased the building, and it served for 17 years as the highschool. In 1914 when the school population outgrew the facilities, asecond Bloomington High School was built located next to theSeminary building. The cost of the new school was $149,000.Then in 1965, the third and most recent high school wasmoved to S. Highway 37 (present day Walnut). BloomingtonHigh School then became Bloomington High School South in1972, when Bloomington North was opened. The building continued to house high school students until1996, when renovation on the almost 30 year old buildingbegan. Renovation was finally completed this year, and this isthe first time in four years that the students have been ableto enjoy a fully working and organized high school facility.by Jessee Hahn40 Gothic • September October 1999 |
