Description: Boys tennis team has great springSouths varsity tennis team pickedup in the spring where it left off in thefall. After finishing third in the fallstate finals, the Panthers came back inthe spring with a first-place finish inthe South Central Conference tournament and 12 wins in their other 13dual matches.Of the 16 victories (including thethree in the SCC), 12 were shutouts.The only loss came against ColumbusNorth 2-3, but it was later avenged5-0. The shutouts, probably a schoolrecord, included a string of eight in arow before it was broken in an easy4-1 triumph over Bloomington North.In tournament play South won theNorth singles tourney and was fourthin the Mooresville doubles tournamentand Jeffersonville Invitational.As in the fall, Ron Remak, JeffDorson, and Zeke Martin held downthe singles positions (when five played, Paul Newton and Ben Campbellfilled out the lineup). Brian Willettand Newton, along with Campbell andLouie DeLone, played doubles.Remak wound up a fine four-yearvarsity career by receiving both theB-man and captain awards.TOP LEFT: Zeke Martin follows his shotin the first set of his singles match againstNorth Central.
