Description: bySuzanneGeorgPagiIt is Friday night, you justgot off of work at 9:00 p.m.However, all of your friendsare already out for the night.You are beginning to think youare going to spend yet anothernight with the parents.Suddenly, you remember oneof your buds just got a pagerand within ten minutes youare on your way to a party.Pagers became a commonway to communicate amongstudents.Senior Eric Woodard said,I got my pager because it wascheaper than my cellularphone. I dont have to sit athome by the phone. Its mademy life so much easier.Junior Melissa Lorenzensaid, I got my pager becausemy dad could never get a holdof me and I wanted one. Mydad makeslers createconvenience forsocial livesthe paymentson it.SeniorAndyMcMichaelsaid, Itsbetter than my girlfriend.However, most parents did not contributemoney for their childrens pagers. Moststudents use their own money from work to payfor the monthly pager bill.Senior Ben Jones said, My parents didnteven know that I had a pager. One day someonecalled my house and I wasnt there, they asked my mom if sheknew my pager number. Thats when they found out.Although pagers were not allowed at school, students stillbrought them. Students agreed that they received little or nohassle from the administrators.Junior Mark Raggio said, I keep mine in my jacket on vibrateOne day my jacket was on my chair in chemistry and I got a page.My jacket vibrated right off my chair.Some students were not able to keep their pagers hidden fromauthority. When caught with a pager, on a first offense, it was tobe confiscated and a parent would be called to pick it up.Sophomore Tyler Habig said, Dr. Goodin saw it and told meIt Ju are sitting in your firstWperiod economics class,mf using all of your energy tojust try to keep your eyesopen. You wonder, how in theworld could that person nextto you be so chipper andhappy to be at school? Then,you notice the gallon-sizeinsulated thermos filled withcoffee on this persons desk.In the past, parents were theonly ones drinking coffee, butstudents were commonly seenwith a cup of Java. Consumption of coffee, cappucino,and cafe lates increased amongstudents throughout the year.Junior Stacy Ellison said, It(coffee) gives me a boost ofenergy in the morning. I getsaid, I drink coffee becauseIm tired. I have a job at LucaPizza so I never get any sleep. Ialways use my Bigfoot Brewerwvee witby hayden smithplenty of sleep, but I dontwant to be at school. So, I needall of the energy I can get tosurvive throughout the day.Junior Neil Klopfensteininsulated mug to keep mycoffee nice and hot at school.Senior Ann Kuchefski totesher Columbian Supreme coffeein her IU thermos to all herclasses. But, with all of thesecoffee containers around theclassroom, accidents werebound to happen.Kuchefski said, I knockedmy coffee off my desk ingovernment class. It spilledeverywhere, but Mr. Cardis(social studies) was cool, hejust told me to go get somepaper towels.Ellison said, I was drivingto school once, but my mug ofcoffee was too big to fit in mycup holder.
