I wasafraid Id trip all overthe place, but it endedup not being too bad.The pep rallyconcluded with aPanther growl fromMr. Joel Marsh, a retiredEnglish teacher.That night, the SouthPanthers beat theMooresville Pioneers 67to 49 in the Winter Courtbasketball game.During half time, theWinter Court nominees,nominated by teachers,walked onto thebasketball court withtheir escorts. The seniorWinter Court memberswere Lori Ellison, JaymeJones, David Long, TomNowlin, Ann Rombalski,Randy Schoonover,Brandon Smith and KelliWilson.The queen, Wilson,was crowned duringhalftime by the panthermascot.Later during theDisco/Retro 70s dancethat was sponsored byStudent Council,Schoonover wascrowned king.Schoonover said, Itwas an honor to benominated king by myclassmates.Student Councildecorated the girls gymto transform it into a 70sDisco.Daphne Houze, astudent council member,said, For the dance weused streamers andballoons. Streamerswere in the entrance, wemade sure everythingwas colorful. We alsohad a picture booth.Senior Emily Young,a Student Councilmember, who wasmainly in charge of thedance and decorations,said, In the past years,we decided a Disco/Retro 70s Dance wouldbe more effective andmore people wouldcome. I got thingsstarted and had moredecorations. We thoughtit would be a bettertheme and it would getmore people to come.Houze commented,We wanted to makethis dance a cool one,so we thought weshould have a theme....Despite the fact themusic was almost threedecades old, studentsseemed to enjoythemselves.Senior Chris Priestsaid, The dance was anight of groovy 70smusic, where Ive neverhad such a good timedancing in my life. Thedance last year didnteven compare to thisdance. This dance beatprom or any other danceIve attended atBloomington South,because we were allgetting down, no onecared about anything atall or what anyone elsethought, they all justhad a good time.Houze said, It wasthe coolest dance Iveever been to. It seemedlike everyone really gotexcited for it. Thatssomething you dont seeevery day from studentsat South....Perhaps senior PaulKichler summed up theWinter Court festivitiesbest when he said, Itwas a great flashback ofa great generation.winter festivities 15 |
