Description: Leader of the PackAnneFreeman has beenrunning cross countryfor five years, four ofwhich have been atSouth. Freeman likesrunning because itis a challenge, but it isincredible when youfeel strong and fastand are able to runwith people you neverthought you could. Ihave also met thegreatest, most goal-oriented peoplethrough this sport.When asked abouther regionalplacement, Freemansaid that she wasglad to have toopportunity to runthere, but [she] got toonervous aboutpossibly running [her]last race for South.KeepingPaceThe GirlsCross Country teamhad a building seasonthis year. The teamlost one of their toprunners from last yearand also lost threeadditional runners.The team had to stepup to compensate forthese losses.In sectionalaction the teamplaced sixth, twopoints shy ofadvancing toregionals. Onerunner, Senior AnneFreeman, advancedindividually placing15th in sectionals.Coach Mary BethHannah-Hansenfeels she had a greatteam that workedhard. They reallywanted to work hardand weredisappointed thattheydidnt make it out ofsectionals.The team willbe losing threeseniors KelleyBelgarde, Freeman,and Ildiko Holschuh.Even with theselosses, Hannah-Hansen believes theteam is going to beAlong withrunning crosscountry, Freeman isPresident of theNational HonorSociety, VicePresident of StudentCouncil, and a part ofher church youthgroup. Freeman is aNational Merit Semi-finalist and receivedthe Wells Scholarshipfrom I.U.Story by Kelly Hartman,Derek Rollins, and SuzanneGeorg.bigger next year.Weve got a lot ofrunners that are reallycoming through andweve got a lot ofgrowth there.Freeman said thisyears group was agreat team, actuallythe best Ive everbeen on. I think thisteam got along betterthan any other.Alissa Gerrish added,The team was veryclose. We all werereally there for eachother.
