Despite thishandicap the team had awinning season with a 12-8record.Primarilycomposed of sophomores, thejunior varsity was a reallygood group, Nicholson said.Three or four players movedup to the varsity during theseason and that left the J.V.with several positions that hadto be filled. The players thatmoved into these positionshad to play new roles on theteam.Nicholson spoke130/ATHLETICShighly of the contributionmade by these players whomoved into sometimesstarting positions with aminimum of experience. Iam pleased to know we willhave some really talentedplayers moving up to thevarsity next year, he said.This yearshighlight came when the J.V.beat Terre Haute North intheir last game of the season.The game was played at TerreHaute North. South took anearly lead and they stayedahead until late in the fourthquarter when Terre HauteNorth pulled ahead. With 20seconds to go we tied the scoreand with some fantasticdefense kept the game tied,sending it into overtime, saidNicholson.South took a five tosix point lead early in theovertime and held on to winthe game. Nicholson waspleased with the performanceof Mike Albright, AnthonyCrane, Chad Carpenter andLucas Roberts.Souths freshmanteam showed to be a solidgroup with players makinga good transition into highschool basketball from themiddle school program,something that is sometimestough to do, Nicholson said.The freshman players madeoutstanding improvement.photo by Kira Robinson-Lor.
