Many of thefall sports begin practicingin the weeks prior to schoolbut the golf team had alreadycompeted in seven matcheswhen the first day of schoolhad begun. The season begana week earlier so that the twoweeks of state could beplayed in reasonableweather. The girls felt thechange would be beneficialif they made it back to statefor the third year in a row. The heat was tremendous inAugust, but I knew how coldit could be at state.Unfortunately the team onlymade it to regionals so wedidnt benefit the change ofthe state meet, saidsophomore Sarah Tynan.Even though thegirls did not make it to statethey finished their seasonwith manyaccomplishments. As a teamthey finished third at theirSouth Central Conference, second at Sectionals andwere eliminated at Regionalswhere they placed fifth. The team will loosefour seniors, three of whichlettered varsity all four years. I dont believe that nextyear will be a rebuildingseason. Many of theunderclassmen on the teamhave ample varsityexperience, but I am worriedabout the low number of girlsgoing out for the team, saysgirls golf coach Jan Britton.Ston- bx Mandy Litz*S98/ATHLETICSLexie Topolgus dreams of theday when she will have herown caddie or a golf cart.Tera Deckard, Lexie Topolgus,Angela Hollinger, Coach JanetBritton, Sarah Tynan, ErinAnderson, Jennifer Cooper, andMandy Litz
