To be accepted for membership a student must be ajunior, senior, or a second semester sophomore who has been on apublications staff for two years. They must rank in the upper one-third of their class and earn As and Bs in publications.Membership in Quill and Scroll can be a big advantage inapplying to colleges, commented Mr. Staver, yearbook advisorand photojournalism teacher. Ms. Kelsey and Staver are the twohead organizers for Quill and Scroll and are responsible for the highstandards for membership. It is a way to recognize people withtalent in publications, said Morey Barnes, a Quill and Scrollmember for the past tow years.Seventeen students this year went to France for three weeksover intersession, spring break, and one week of school. SeniorSummer Denton said, France was a great experience to have mysenior year. I enjoyed being able to communicate in a culture thatI have studied for four years.Sixteen of these seventeen students hosted a France exchangeat the beginning of the school year. At first it was really hard tocommunicate, but by the time she had to leave we were as close assisters, commented Hilary Keen.Another exchange program went on with students fromBrazil. Joy Ladd hosted Renata Pinherio from Brazil for the wholeschool year. I would encourage anyone who has the opportunity tohost to do it. You gain a brother or sister and a friend for life, saidLadd.Greg Danielson hosted Sebastian Henn from Germany forthree weeks.
