Her Southvolleyball team played in the firststate tourney, in 1972, making it tothe final four. As a coach she hasbeen to state a total of four timesin volleyball, won the conferencechampionship in track, and numerous sectional and regionalchampionships in basketball.Georgia has had a tremendous impact on the lives of girls who haveparticipated in athletic programs atSouth, observed Joann Ryser,teacher and former assistant volleyball coach for Tidd.She helped develop the physicaleducation facilities at South, saidRuth Lewis, physical educationteacher and one of Tidds formerstudents. My success as a teacherand the fact that I am in educationis a direct result of having hadGeorgia Tidd as a teacher. She isa wonderful role model for girls,Lewis said.Title IX became law in 1976 andmandated equity in programs formen and women. As a result of thislaw, the School Board created theposition of Girls Athletic Director.Tidd is the only person to fill thatposition.During Tidds tenure, girls programs have grown to ten, the latestaddition, soccer which becomes avarsity sport in the fall of 1994.
