Headed for challengesOn this occasion, we must realizethat today marks the beginning ofour tomorrow. With these words,Kitling Lum, who gave the welcome,set the tone for Commencement. Thetheme for the 1994 Commencementwas Today marks the beginning oftomorrow.The class speech was given byRob McClellan. In his speech,McClellan had advice for the graduates telling them to take advantageof every day, quoting Hugh Mulligan who said What I do today isimportant because I am exchanginga day of my life for it. He encouraged the graduates to cherish themoment saying, take a deep breath,look around, take it all in, for youwill never pass this way again.The class charge, delivered by Katie Bourne, followed. Bourne challenged the graduates saying, Opportunities are boding, and all it takesis one person to set that in motion.She continued, Will you be that oneperson?Tradition was also prevalent. Mr.Lumbley, performed his annual reading of a Dr. Seuss book, while Dr.Riggle ran through a list of accomplishments of the class of 1994, highlighting a few especially memorablemoments. He finished with the phraseHave pride in yourself and the panthers, a tradition in recent years.After the diplomas were handedout, Class President Ann Johns leadthe class in the turning of the tassles.Michelle Himm then gave the farewell noting we should inscribe thisday in our hearts. The graduatesprocessed out of the IU Auditorium,and then headed for ShowalterFountain, another tradition.Mr. Lumbley laughs as Jennie Mosora tellshim that she has been ready to graduate fora VERY long time.Ben Londergan is frozen in place after jumping into the cold water of the fountain.30/STUDENT LIFE-^2*_ |
