Instead ofusing the pool for severalweeks twice a year, the department decided to utilizethe pool year-round. The activities include a more vigorous swimming and divingroutine. Next year there arehopes to start instruction inareas ranging from canoeingto water safety. First aid andscuba diving for the advancedP E. and lifeguarding as aclass. Physical educationteacher Larry Williams commented, We want a ripple inthe water year-round.Reason for change was tocut down class size by dividing a gym class into differentswimming groups, thus giving students more individualattention. We appreciate theuse of the pool because it cutsdown extra class sizes, notedGeorgia Tidd, girls athleticdirector and gym teacher. Toaccomplish this goal, fourteachers will rotate theirclasses in and out of the poolarea year-round.Other activities in PE included sports from tennis tofootball, from soccer to track.Special trips included going toa driving range, bowling, andice skating.
