LearningThe 1992-93 Academic De-cathalon team overcame alack of experience to end successfully with a fourth placefinish at the state competition.With an overall theme ofCultural Diversity, De-cathalon team members competed for points and medalsin subject matters such as social studies, math, science,economics, fine arts, english,as well as in speech, interviewand essay divisions. Finally,the team competed as a wholein the Superquiz where theyanswered questions on thelives of 30 international figures, such as Gandhi, MartinLuther King, Jr., and MotherTeresa.Practices were twice aweek, for a total of abouteight hours, and team members were expected to studyon their own time. Competingfirst in a preliminary scrimmage that motivated them towork harder, said seniorSacha Bernstein, they wenton to the regional and then tothe state competition.Senior Thomas Hall said ofthe activity, It was veryworthwhile.
