Description:	Dedication pays offFun and success made the1991-92 school year memorable for the Sounds ofSouth. The group competedat the Kennedy Center inWashington, D.C., wherethey earned a superior rating. They also sold out a production of West Side Story,which had audiences begging for a third show.The year was one of themost enjoyable years that Ihave ever spent working withthis wonderful group ofyoung people, said directorGwen Witten-Upchurch. TheSounds of South maintainedan attitude of persistence,hard work, and cooperation,Witten-Upchurch said.The people in madrigals(Sounds of South) were really a group that lends itself tobeing together, said studentMark Bays. They worked together to perform in Washington, D.C., in a contest ofeight music groups selectedfrom the nations best. TheSounds of South placed thirdin this competition.
