Description: Mind gameTeaching new players thegame of chess, playing atclub meetings, and going totournaments comprised thepurpose of the BHS Southchess club.The club had 20-25 activemembers who met everyWednesday in sponsor GregMongolds room. We playa lot of chess games, studychess strategy books,sometimes play speedchess, and go to tournaments on the weekends,said Mongold.The clubs goals for thisyear, said Mongold, areto bring in new members,qualify for state finals inboth individual and teamchampionship competition.We want to have somemembers achieve a 1500rating.Mongold explained thatthe club is atempting tomeet these goals bypracticing very hard, goingto several tournaments togain experience and using achess computer whichgives us really tough com-petiton.The 1990-91 Chess ClubAdam Bennett takes a breakfrom stressful work at a FutureProblem-Solving practice.Billie Blum keeps Simon Lee onguard as he concentrates to parallel her move.Andrew Robertson and RyanPeek practice a game of chess during a practice after school.**! ■:■-.....• © O #.
