Thestudents in last years bandprogram were willing to putin the effort necessary, according to band directorRobert Dubinski, making1990-91 a successful year.The Jazz Bands attendedthe Purdue Jazz Festival inFebruary, where, in addition to scoring well, they received many individualawards. Among them werea $250-dollar scholarshipfor an outstanding musician planning to attendPurdue, which went to senior Alison Gamer, and several outstanding Musicianawards, which went to various other band members.The Jazz Bands also didwell at the North Jazz Fes-tival.Sophomore Andy Brucesaid that he was verypleased with their performances throughout theyear.I feel that Jazz Band hascome a long way this year -weve played a wide rangeof charts and constantlychallenged ourselves to dobetter.For the Wind Ensemble,1990-91 was also a challenging year, Dubinski said.Most of the students in theclass are younger. Considering that, weve done verywell, senior Kendra Patterson said. Only seven out ofa class of 35 are seniors.Theyve been surprisingme as far as being able toplay some of the things theyare playing.
