Description: NHS recognitionThe National Honor Society and Quill and Scroll aretwo orginazations that recognize the hard work of students.Quill and Scroll, an international honorary society,requires that students whowish for membership mustbe in the upper third of theirclass. They must also haveserved no less than two semesters on either of Southspublications, the Gothic orthe Optimist. The first chapter at South was started in1983 by two of the foundingmembers, George Gallopand Carl Miller. The ceremony in which the new members were inducted, tookplace at the publicationsawards banquet on May 31.Membership to the National Honor Society is basedon scholarship, leadership,service, and character. Agrade point average of atleast a 3.5 is also required.NHS sponsored several fundraisers, a blood drive, and atalent show. A tutorial program was also provided bythe members of the NHS.The 1989-90 school year sawa new program started. Paper was collected from eachclassroom for recycling. Iwas pleased to see the members of NHS exhibit commitment through service to theschool, said NHS sponsorSusan McGlasson.Wow!
